Disclaimer

The bloggers of ACPS Underground wish to make it clear that, while this blog is an amalgamation of teacher opinions, one of our colleagues with the name of Voltaire has played no role in the development, writing or publishing of the material. We understand that ACPS has begun blocking Voltaire related email. We apologize to our fellow teacher for any hardship we may have inadvertently caused. Voltaire was the pen name of Francois-Marie Arouet, a French writer known for his great wit and support for reforms of oppressive institutions.

  1. All that means is that you're getting their attention. Keep it up.

  2. ACPS has begun conducting email security testing from outside emails. There is no coincidence to its timing. The ACPS Ministry of Truth is seeking to control the information. Get the facts out now and get them to those who will make a difference. The email below is from Tech Services:

    All,

This evening the email manager was conducting a few security tests on our email systems as part of our normal system maintenance. You may have received one or more messages with the subject "Testing Security" from an outside (yahoo.com) address. We want to take a moment to let you know that this was intentional and was not intended to cause any alarm. Please disregard those messages.

    Thank you,

    Tech Services

  3. This is from the Education Association of Alexandria blog - Take ACTION folks!
"WE NEED YOU TO DO TWO THINGS! First, please go our blog (http://eaavea.blogspot.com) and, in the Comments section after this posting, add the things you already do after school that are unpaid, such as one-on-one, etc.
Second, PLEASE attend the school board meetings! The more EAA speakers, the better! Lisa Staib and I can help you craft the words, but seeing other faces at the meetings will make a difference! Please try and come to, at least, one of the following meetings:
-February 1st Budget work session (7pm)
-February 7th Budget work session and regular meeting (7pm)
    -February 10th Board meeting (7:30pm)
-February 17th Budget work session and add/delete (7pm)
    -February 23rd Final add/delete (7pm)"

  4. What is this outside email security testing supposed to turn up? What was its intended purpose?

  7. I am glad you are doing what you are doing. It would be a shame if ACPS blocked this blog, as one thing that is supposed to be beautiful about this country is freedom of speech. I would hope that our county felt confident enough in what they were doing to allow discussion from those who disagree.

  8. A friend of mine posted information that this blog existed to her friends on facebook, who would be very interested and supportive. Someone sent her a message asking for further information, but when she tried to reply, there was a message that said her friend's request was erased! Who is it that can hack into our personal accounts and erase our communications! I get that acps doesn't want their emails being used, but they have no right to hack I to our personal accounts! Are we under a Nazi regime?

  9. I wish to address the value/need for "anonymity" in Alexandria.

Do you not worry about repercussions? If not, you are a braver soul than I, one who has lived here two plus decades.

Bravo to those who choose to speak directly, but there is no shame in not doing so given the "regime".
